Bari vs. Lazio

Roberto Baronio was suspended with Mourad Meghni, Simone Del Nero and Lionel Scaloni also missing out, so Lazio adopted a three-man defence. Bari were known as giant-killers after holding the two Milan giants and stunning Chievo last week, but were without Emmanuel Rivas, Mariano Donda, Matteo Paro and Fernando Sforzini.

These two teams had not met in all competition since January 2003 and Bari's last home win with Lazio was 1-0 in the 1981-82 Serie B campaign.

Edgar Alvarez blasted just over two minutes in and it was a warning, as Bari took the lead. Paulo Vitor Barreto sprung the offside trap perfectly on a Sergio Almiron ball over the top and kept his cool to nutmeg the on-rushing goalkeeper.

Jean-Francois Gillet was at full stretch to fingertip a Mauro Zarate snapshot round the post, while Aleksandr Kolarov's left-foot half-volley flashed wide.

Alvarez somehow failed to score straight after the restart, as he surged forward on the counter from a Vitalii Kutuzov through ball, but Muslera did just enough to deflect the angled drive on to the near post.

Gillet rather foolishly tried to dribble round both Julio Cruz and Tommaso Rocchi, getting away with it. Alvarez wanted a penalty for a Kolarov trip, but the referee waved play on.

Bari deservedly doubled their lead with a well-worked move, as Kutuzov pushed up and rolled across for Riccardo Meggiorini's low finish.

Ousmane Dabo was rightly shown a straight red card for blatantly hacking down Alvarez from behind after the ball had already been released. Alvarez was livid and his reaction was so furious that he was booked.
