Parma vs. Siena

Both sides are battling against relegation this term, even if Parma have done remarkably well and came into this round in joint sixth place. McDonald Mariga, Andrea Pisanu and Jonathan Biabiany missed out, while Siena were without Luca Rossettini and Jaakola.

Valeri Bojinov put Parma in front just six minutes into the match. Siena gave the ball away in midfield and the Gialloblu passed it around well before the former Manchester City striker got the final touch at full stretch from eight yards.

Bojinov then missed an absolute sitter! Blerim Dzemaili's low cross from the right went past everyone, but the Bulgarian ballooned over from six yards.

Parma were the only team on the field during the first half, as Dzemaili and Christian Panucci had chances. It got worse for Siena, who saw Michele Fini sent off for a reaction foul on Stefano Morrone. The Parma player went through the back of him, so he spun round with elbow raised in anger.

Incredibly, the Gialloblu again missed an open goal! A cross squirmed through to the centre for the totally unmarked Nicola Amoruso, but he hesitated and hit it straight at the goalkeeper.

It was remarkable that the first half ended only 1-0, as Dzemaili wasted a counter by blasting over.

Massimo Maccarone tried the one-man fightback with a solo effort that saw him run halfway up the field, forcing Antonio Mirante to palm it round the far post.

Siena saw their Coach Marco Giampaolo sent off in stoppages for dissent and did try to grab a point, but Albin Ekdal's effort was charged down.
