Siena vs. Livorno

The Amaranto faced their second consecutive Tuscan derby and were furious following the 1-0 defeat to Fiorentina, blaming the referee. Their problems remained upfront, where Cristiano Lucarelli had scored the team's only goal on August 30. Siena were still looking for their first home win and had one point from the last four rounds, but also caused controversy by criticising the officials.

In the last edition in November 2007, a 3-2 result proved Livorno's first Serie A win here in 60 years. However, they faced an injury crisis this weekend with Antonio Candreva, Romano Perticone, Antonio Filippini and Martin Bergvold sidelined.

Simone Vergassola combined brilliantly with Emanuele Calaio' only to fire just wide as he came sliding on to the return pass from eight yards.

Alfonso De Lucia flapped away a Paul Codrea free kick, but Livorno were forced into a substitution for Mozart's muscular problem.

Siena wasted a golden opportunity when Calaio' went clear on Cristian Del Grosso's assist, but incredibly turned his free header wide.

The game changed on 38 minutes with two refereeing decisions. De Lucia performed a stunning reaction save to deny Calaio', then Maccarone was hauled back as he tried to turn in the loose ball. The red card for substitute Marchini and penalty were inevitable. However, De Lucia at least kept Livorno in the game by saving Maccarone's spot-kick!

On the stroke of half-time Livorno nearly took a shock lead, as Tavano dispossessed Codrea and threaded through for Cristiano Lucarelli, whose left-foot drive forced a Curci save.

Livorno continued to have the best chances with Tavano's effort from the D skimming the upright. The Siena crowd also turned on Coach Marco Giampaolo after captain Vergassola visibly angry at his substitution.

Siena began to pour forward and Rivas needed a desperate intervention to stop Maccarone meeting a Del Grosso cross.

There were penalty appeals for a Raimondi handling offence, while De Lucia palmed away a Michele Fini right-foot strike.
